Hi all - did a search but no directly relevant answers, so this must be a bit of a silly question: can you tile straight on to a bare (painted) brick wall?
It's an internal wall at the back of the integrated garage that's being part converted. This area will be a small downstairs loo, so keen not to loose too much space by batening / dot-dabbing. The Building Inspector is happy for it not to be insulated as the new stud-wall at the other end of the garage will meet fire and insulation regs.
Hoping to use 600mm x 300mm ceramic tiles up to the mid-point, and then skim & paint the top half.
If it can be tiled directly, is there any prep that should be undertaken first? Score / sand it (not much depth to actually score)? Apply a diluted PVC coat? Skim or smooth the wall (without wanting to go too overboard on the works)?
The wall is pretty flat(-ish) with the obviously exception of the pointed cement lines... Will the tile adhesive take out these irregularities?
Many thanks for your advice.
