TILING UNDER A BATH, ANY POINT?

I'm installing a bathroom soon and the dear lady insists i tile under the bath. Its an upstairs bathroom.

Is their any point? She feels this will prevent any leaking water getting through the walls/floor

Also, can you install a steel bath on top of floor tiles upstairs? Surely the tiles would crack under the weight of a full bath?
