What size batten is best to attach to the wall when installing an acrylic bath?

50mm x 25mm is enough.

When we did new build used tile lathe 25mm x 50 mm also full silicone joint to any edges touching wall before been tiled.
If chip board floor 2 -100mm x 25 mm batterns under bath feet.

No, but won't do any harm if it is.

Attach the wall then silicone where the bath with meet it and the wall. Then do you use straight brackets to attach bath to batten?

It doesn't need to be fixed to the batten, just silicone along the wall.

Once baton on - silicone along the corner of the batons > wall. Then offer up the bath, leaving a small gap to get the silicone nozzle in, fill the gap with silicone - pay close attention to corners andsides that will get wet if it's a shower bath and then push the bath onto wall. Remove excess silicone that squeezes out and smooth out level with the bath edge.

Final level of the bath if required and then fill to the overflow with water and leave overnight to settle and silicone to set.
