Hi
Have a double garage built and would like to build on the end a hipped roof to the gable end.
This space underneath would be totally open, holding the roof up with 6x6 posts at each corner and one in the middle of the front span. Dimensions are 5.40 wide x 2.70 deep.

Was thinking of using 6x2 timber and bolting another 6x2 timber on top making 6x4.

Doing it like this would it be ok for the 5.40 width with a post half way?

Have looked at using distressed concrete lintels but would want to cover lintels with plasterboard but thought it would be agro to do.

Roof would be lightweight metal roofing sheet.

Just mulling ideas in my head but wondered what you thought.

Thanks for any input

You would have to have the 6 inch dimension vertically not horizontally.
You can plasterboard on top of concrete lintels by dot and dab. Although plasterboard is not suitable for use outside.

I used PVC soffit board on the underside, fixed only with builders adhesive, onto steel lintel, over 10 years ago. It's still there. (rendered on the front face.)
