Hi,

I am looking to extend my loft hatch and wanted to buy the same size of wood, however the size i measured doesnt seem to be readily available or im missing something?

Size measured was 1.5"x 2 3/4 "

Any thoughts?

Just buy larger and cut to size, available sizes have changed over the years [metrication is one factor].

I can't understand those strange archaic units of measurements?

Reducing the cross section by more than a 5mm will invalidate the structural grade, as the structural grade is based upon the *size AND position* of knots (and other factors) in relation to the cross section.

If you have to reduce the cross section by more than 5mm (which you shouldn’t) then only use knot free timber, or with knots only on one side and plane down that side (do this at your own risk).
