Further to my last post, I can confirm it is my timer that has gone all stange on me, so i need to buy a new one and fit it etc. My boiler system is very old so the question I have is "Are all timers standard fitting and universal to all boiler systems?" And can anyone reccomend a good one - thanks

Well, the bolier is something like a Potterman??? sorry if i got that wrong but its so old the writing has faded lol

The 103 and 102 are interchangeable IIRC. Plus, there are loads on eBay.
