I have a Ferroli Optima boiler which has worked fine the last 5 years but now refuses to work when switched to the TIMER position. The clock display is fine. Boiler is working normally when switched to MANUAL. Is this likely to be the circuit board ?

Most likely to be the clock. test it with a multimeter if you wish to be sure.
It's a nice easy swap out on the optima too. 6 screws - 4 wires if I remember correctly
