I have a Studio Flat with electric heating, a water tank for hot water serving taps only. This works fine and hot water is good. Problem is a small leak from overflow pipe at base of water tank. The leak is in the joint between pipe and tank. I have tried using epoxy putty to fix the leak but it persists (it is very small and dries before it reaches another surface).

I applied the putty in a couple of stages - firstly around the joint but leak occured between tank and putty. Secondly roughened tank and leak now appears through putty.

I am loath to apply more putty as I am not sure this will fix the problem.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has problems with this 'poxy putty. It might set under water, but it's really difficult to seal leaks from the outside.

To cure the problem on potable water, I think you really have to drain the water to below the leak, then do a proper repair with jointing compound and some form of reinforcement such as hemp or one of the artificial fibres.

my favorite "genuine silicone" but as oil man said it will have to be drained first, and can only be used on low pressure such as overflows
