If you've got an old house you can't use a steam stripper cos you're likely to blow the plaster (if it isn't already!)
Using one of those prickler things is a total waste of time.
I've tried an angle grinder with a sanding disc (waste of time as the paint melts into the grit and renders it useless)
The answer..........get an old saw and scrape it across the walls (keep cleaning the paint out of the teeth) Yes it's it's hard work but it'll put hundreds of tiny scratches right into the paper. Then get a plant sprayer and fill it with HOT soapy water, spray the walls, go and have a cuppa for 20mins then come back and hey presto...a lovely soft stripping experience

Yeah sure... Admittedly, you will still need to score the paper before use, but usually if you cross score just enough to abrase the surface this is sufficient. The dif has enzimes in it which break down the vinyl in the paint and allow the moisture to get underneath making it loads easier to remove. It even works on woodchip that has been painted several times. You can dilute it with water if you wish, or for very stubborn paint use neat. This is an american product, so comes in funny sizes, bottle approx 750ml is about £6-£7 dependant on where you go. You cannot get it at diy stores. You will have to go to an independant decorators supplier. I hope this helps. Good luck! :D
