Hi everyone, newbie here :)

Just a quick question. Should you use the hammer action when drilling a 110mm hole into brick and block to fit a bathroom extractor fan? I'm thinking not, but I just want to be sure.

What it is, for the first time in my life, I have let what can only be described as cowboys to fit some windows for me, and make one larger which involved moving the bathroom extractor fan. I was going to do the job myself, but the missus said let someone else do it, and have the luxury of not lifting a finger.

To drill the hole they have cracked a few surrounding bricks, and totally destroyed the ones next to the hole. Not only that they tried hiding the broken bricks by gluing them together with silicone

By chance, and luckily I came across this mess because I was refitting the extractor fan after waiting for the plaster to set. The first alarm bell was the pipe going throught the wall was tilted down towards the bathroom. So much so the bubble on my level couldn't go any further

God I feel better for that  Sorry to bore you all

Hi and welcome.
You would not normally use hammer action when core drilling and the fall of the duct should be towards the external face.
