Dear DIY Fanatics.

I have just changed the plastic sheet in the bottom of my flush in my toilet isternn as it had stopped flushing.

Since i have replaced this the cistern works fine but when we flush the as teh cistern fillig is complete the pipe to the cistern hums very loud for about 15 seconds. We have got by with runningthe cold tap whilst this happens.

The only other thig i did that day was turn the water off at the stop tap.

After reading threads here i have adjusted ( closed further) the stop Tap and wow, it has shortened the length of the noise but alass not stopped it.

How ever i am concerned if i close the stop tap any more i may cause lose of water to the heating system and it will break or blow up!.

Is there a certain amount of turns to open a stop tap.
I have it open now on 2 turns.

Thanks Odd job

sounds like water hammer shockwaves going through pipe work at high volocity try putting a service valve chrome compression fitting with a flat head screwdriver type shutoff valve (ballafix) just before the feed to the ballcock this is also standard to WRAS 1999 anyway to fit one of these then stop using the mains stop valve always shutting of all appliances and then you can control the flow not the pressure to your toilet. by the way im a bit drunk so any other pros pls excuse me

or just go and get a torbek valve (part 4) that will sort your problem
