Toilet Cistern overflowing when refilling after flush

Hi Guys,

After flushing, the cistern fills up too much and overflows, I've lowered the float but this is making it worse if anything.

After the float settles the water is at the correct level, I'm not sure what's wrong so any help appreciated.

After flushing?? Isnt this all the time then??

What type of cistern do you have?? The old lever style with syphon? or the new push button style with dump valave ( and built in overflow )?
