Hi,
I've got a problem with a dual-flush toilet - water in the cistern has started to run into the toilet bowl slowly and constantly. Sometimes a 'small flush' stops it and sometimes it doesn't.

The cistern isn't over-filling, so it's not water running down the overflow that's causing it.

It's only 3 years old - is it likely that anything could be worn out on the flushing mechanism already ? It looks quite complicated - can anything be adjusted to stop this ?

This link looks relevant, although the pic link is dead so I can't tell if it's a similar flush valve : //www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=938773#938773

If it is grit around the flush valve or a worn valve, can this be replaced without removing the cistern from the pan ?

I'd appreciate any pointers before I get started on this one.

Cheers.

Probably either grit or a warped/damaged sealing washer. Normally these valves are on some kind of bayonet or snap-on fitting and can be removed from the top

Hi

There are 2 tags low down that push in and at the same time lift upward the whole flush valve assembly should come out. The problem is most likely the rubber washer. The washer may have blisters on it if so pop them pull it off and fit otherside up. A new washer is the only answer. Also check the seat and remove any limescale build up on the plastic lip where the washer seals.

Thanks for your help guys - you were spot on !

I removed the mechanism and the rubber washer had quite a few blisters on it, so I popped them carefully with a needle (they were full of water) and refitted the washer the other way up. There was no sign of any limescale build-up underneath, where the washer rests.

I've just refilled the cistern and isolated the mains supply to the inlet so if the cistern doesn't drain into the bowl overnight, then my DIY fix will have worked - if it does drain away, then I'll replace the washer.

Thanks again.
