hello!

Just moved into a new flat and the toilet won’t stop running down the overflow. The float valve seems ineffective, and in actual fact has water spurting from it which is never a good sign. I bought a replacement, but the inlet pipe won’t disconnect for me to fit the new one! I even bought a new flush valve etc too as thought whilst I’m there might as well do the lot, but same problem! Probably being dim, first time plumbing here!

I’m turning the water off during the evenings and when I’m at work to prevent waste in the meantime.

Thanks in advance

Yep, the fill valve is knackered and needs replaced. Looks like the overflow could take a clean too.

You need the right tools, >>> an adjustable spanner >>> to loosen the nut from the bottom of the fill valve, then the nut that holds the fill valves into the cistern. Check what type of washer is in there. Fibre or rubber, if it's fibre that'll probably need replaced too. You may need to hold the fill valve in place, when you use the spanner to loosen the nut(s)

or get someone in to replace it for a fee

A pic of what you can't undo on the supply pipe might help Jake !!!

Looks like the blue float is stuck against the flush valve body ,in the fully open position. Try to gently free it by pulling upward.
