I'm in the process of fitting the pipework for a new bathroom.

I haven't yet chosen the toilet but need to decide where to put the water feed. The toilet will be a freestanding but not a "back to the wall" type so there will be a small amount of access to the pipework. The water supply will be coming up from the floor and I will fit an isolating valve a couple of inches above the floor, such that the toilet can be plumbed in when I have it.

Is there a "standard" position to put the water feed relative to the soil pipe? My thought is to position it as close as is practical (leaving a gap of maybe 15mm?) to one side so that it is accessible but likely to be hidden behind the toilet. I would anticipate positioning it with a similar gap to the rear wall.

Is this a good idea or should it be further "out

Choose the toilet

Or run the feed pipe from its source, to the side of the toilet furthest from the source (so you can neck a bit off, after you choose a toilet)
