Toilet leak

Hello!

I have a small leak in toilet. Water is trickling from the fill valve in the cistern, but also down the back of the toilet bowl.

I would like to fix it myself as I heard its relatively easy but just wanted some guidance. I am thinking it may be a washer that's worn or something?

Just looking for some advice on what would usually need replacing with an issue like this.

I have attached a photo so you can see the type of set up. Also would be great if someone could tell me the right type of replacement part for this particular type of setup.

Please dont judge the grime, this is a very old house and it will get cleaned

The float valve is a Siamp, but the flush valve isn't. Hard to tell, but could be Ideal Standard/Armitage Shanks. It's probably the seal on the latter that has worn/limescaled/detritus on the washer, causing the float valve to fill. It could however be the Siamp and just overflowing. Does the cistern feed have an isolation valve? If yes, isolate and see if it stops trickling into the pan after a short while, if it drains the cistern then it's likely the flush valve seal.

Thank you this is very helpful. It does have an isolation valve, I will isolate and see what happens shortly. If it turns out to be the Siamp float valve, will it mean replacing the whole thing? And if it may be the flush valve seal, when replacing these parts are they all the same? I am worried I will purchase the wrong one.

If it turns out to be the flush valve, you may be able to just flip it over. No they're not all the same so getting the correct one would be needed. Toiletspares.co.uk may be able to assist you with this. Failing that, you could replace the flush valve.

If it turns out to be the flush valve, you may be able to just flip it over. No they're not all the same so getting the correct one would be needed. Toiletspares.co.uk may be able to assist you with this. Failing that, you could replace the flush valve.
