hi all,

this is my first post on the site so please don't flame me if I make an error or two with my post!

my toilet is constantly overflowing after flushing, I had it installed about 4 years ago and it is from bathstore.com, I have attached a pic of the toilet overflowing.

one strange thing is that when the water is overflowing into the pan if i run the cold water tap on the sink for more than 5 seconds the overflow stops.

i am pretty handy at most things but have to admit that plumbing is an area i have very little experience in so would appreciate any advice that you have to help me diagnose and fix the problem.

from digging round the forums and searching screwfix.com i think it might be the fill valve that is leaking? i have seen the following and wondered if it is what i need:

http://www.screwfix.com/search.do;j...tton.x=0&searchbutton.y=0&searchbutton=submit

the only thing is I cant see if it has the water hose coming out the top of it as per what is shown in the picture on the left hand side of the cistern. then again I am just guessing so not sure what I am talking about :D

would really appreciate any help and guidance you can provide.

kind regards,

stu

The float looks like it's jammed against the bottom of the valve. Have you tried adjusting the float level with the cruciform screw, bottom left in your photo.

If you need a spare, have a look at http://www.lunns.net/cisternspares/
about a third the way down the cistern spares page.
