Toilet Question

Hello!

Last night I put a new flush in our toilet. It's all working, but the overflow pipe doesn't appear to marry up nicely and leaks. I have a suspicion that it may have leaked before it had just never been tested.

Anyway, my new flush has a built in overflow. Can you see any danger in capping the old overflow inside the tank with one of those plastic push fit things and just using the overflow that's built in?

That's fine. I don't think a push-fit will fit it but if you can find something that does, that will be ok. Sounds like you might need to adjust the water level in the cistern too.

When I say it leaks I mean through testing of it, rather than it's just constantly leaking. I just presumed the pipe would be 10mm or some standard measurement. I'm new to this pipe lark!

Does anyone have any suggestions of how to block it?

Pop into your local plumbing merchant or Helpful DIY Outlet
Toilet overflow hole stopper and washer , should get one for less than a £1.

As squeaky says, adjust the water level to be below the pipe and as boss mentions - get one of these and remove the pipe.

Thanks for your advice, everyone. Much appreciated. I've actually just checked and the pipe to the flapper valve is actually too high to be the overflow pipe. The instructions don't say anything about cutting it so I'm a bit worried it could crack or something.

I'll probably get someone to come look at the old overflow pipe and see if they can make the joint stop leaking.

Nothing to stop you cutting the Flapper overflow to the correct level
The idea of the overflow going into the internal pan is a water saving exercise, external overflows tend to be overlooked and not attended to .
