Hi all,

Just removed my cistern which is the type that sits directly on the back of the toilet bowl. The reason I removed this, as when you flushed the toilet clean water leaked from this region so i though it was the rubber/foam seal that seals the union between the bowl and the base of the cistern unit.

I have measured the hole at the back of the toilet, where the clean water starts its flush cycle, and it has a diameter of 3". Now the old seal I removed looks a bit rubbered, if you pardon the pun, but does anyone know what this is called? I want to get a new one hopefully from a DIY store.

If i can't get one, I'll just put it back on covered in silicon sealant which I dont really want to do :(

Any ideas most welcome.

Cheers

Russell.

All proper plumbers merchants (eg Plumbase) sell Close Couple service kits, including the doughnut washer, which is the bit you want. The standard kit has replacement bolts and wingnuts which fix a slotted metal plate around the syphon outlet down onto the pan. Another type has long bolts which actually go through holes in the base of the cistern. If the bolts and nuts are OK, you can probably buy just a new doughnut washer. Probably best not to use sealant on the joint - if the washer fits properly there's no reason for it to leak.

I collect doughnuts. I lose them of course, but I know I have 4 different ones. And if you have the wrong doughnut, you get a wet botty.
The most universal one is a very soft , aerated foam, which squishes a lot. City plumbing sell them.

Or you could try this guy
