Toilet seat removal

Hi I'm trying to remove the toilet seat so that I can access the chrome brackets to tighten them up, any ideas on how to remove this style of seat. I've tried pushing the white peg in, pulling the white peg, turning the peg.

Are you sure it's not just an upward pull? Also the oblong cover on the side might be some kind of release.

To be honest I haven't tried pulling the seat up, the brackets are quite loose, but I might give it ago. As for the small oblong cover, I did think the same, I've tried pushing them in with a screw driver, but no joy. Might see if they will come out.
