I have an Ideal Standard Alto wc and want to replace the existing faulty lid with a soft close one. Ordering from IS would cost £46 + £6 postage which is much more than I want to pay. Is there a good quality but less expensive seat available?

Plenty of cheap(er) soft-close seats on the market.
In some cases you gets what you pays for, in others you pay for a brand name.

I tend to leave the toilet seat closing to the missus!
You would probably be best of nipping in to a merchants, I bought one not so long ago for £20 from James Hargreaves, can't knock it! was top fitting and the seat is easily removed from hinges for ease of cleaning (another job for the missus!)

You would probably be best of nipping in to a merchants...................... it! was top fitting

Having never bought a toilet seat before, I have 2 questions:
1. Are they all more or less the same size, and;
2. can a 'top fitting' seat be fitted to a pan which has the traditional screw fixings.
