Morning all,
Ever since we moved in to our house we've had an issue with the en suite toilet blocking up. Yesterday the same thing happened and my other half decided to use a plunger to try and free it up. The pressure of her using it must have been too much and the toilet started to leak.

There's very little access but I managed to pull it out to have a look behind and realised that she'd managed to force the soil pipe connector off the back of the toilet. An easy fix but I thought it would be a good chance to see why it was blocking all the time. It's obvious from the pictures that the kink in the flex pipe is probably the cause of the issues.

I'm going to have to replace the pipe but other than some McAlpine branding I have no idea what to buy. Also, on each end of the pipe was some blue liquid. Are these pipes push fix connectors or do I need to use some sort of sealant? No plumbers round here seem to be interested in such a small, dirty job so it looks like it's up to me to fix it over the next couple of days. Photos to follow...

Have you checked whether the sewage pipe (in the ground outside) is blocked, or at least the section that the ensuite waste flows into. Otherwise it suggests a blockage between the toilet waste and the soil pipe outside. The flexible pipe pictured should work ok, screw fix sell them. Close off the waste in the meantime to prevent dangerous fumes coming into the house

Blue liquid looks like WC cleaner. Mac Alpine flexi is good . I can see the panconnector end is OK but can you pic. what the other end connects to ?

The pipe also seems to have a separate collar (see photos above) on the end that connects to the waste pipe going to the drain. The photo below shows the brown waste pipe just behind the tiles behind the toilet. Is the white pipe part of the flexi connector and do I need to pull this out and replace it as well?

It was definitely the kink in the flex pipe causing the blockages. The photos don’t show it very well but it was about a third the diameter it should be. All other pipes are free flowing now so just need to replace the flexi I think.

yes you do - a new flexi will have a pan connector one end and pipe connector on the other

Last picture looks very much like the Pan Connector has been pushed into a socket, the finned end is sized to make a watertight fit inside the pipe or a spigot, which by its nature is slightly smaller diameter. Flexi Pan Connectors are a last resort for most Pro's, I'd seriously have a look to see if you can redo things with some soil pipe and a rigid Pan Connector before defaulting to another flexi.

Rigid pipework is more robust and a lot less likely to come apart if it blocks and you need to plunge the Pan. If unsure, chuck a few more photo's up of what you have, i.e. pan outlet in relation to soil pipe and we'll advise what is achievable.

Thanks for all your replies. I had to use a slightly shorter flexi pipe which was a much better fit and had no kinks in it. Cost me £10 and thanks to the advice on here took no time to fit it all. Working perfectly now!

Are you sure it even has the usual finned rubber seal at the soil pipe end? Picture isn't quite clear but could be a 5" soil pipe someone has tried to modify with an extractor ducting reducer.
