2 years ago there was a small leak at the toilet waste pipe joint so I applied some plumbers mait and it seemed to be working. Now I found occasionally (not sure if it is after flush or not) the joint is a little wet. My question is does plumbers mait become defective over time as it never hardens? Shall I just apply more plumbers mait to the same place? A picture is attached - the grey thing is plumbers mait.

Thanks. IMG_0891.JPG

I always have a tube of it, use it all the time in wet areas Paul, it's the only real high grab waterproof adhesive I've found that sets rubberised like silicone and is paintable. It works really well in damp areas too - http://www.bostik.co.uk/diy/product/evo-stik/Serious-Stuff-Wet-Grab/25.
I use it to seal in trays, baths, bowl basins and anytime I need a hi grab adhesive in a wet area basically.
