Is it one of those almost semicircular ones with a steel shaft that you use for fencing work? Planting trees and stuff?
 
thats the one. Best one ive had is a 14.99 one from wickes. I keep the blade nice and sharp. Cuts through tree roots, brick, flint etc. Digs great little holes. great as an oversize crowbar, prybar etc.
 
I think the shape of the blade makes them almost indestructible.
