Hi all and happy New year.

We moved into a new place that has no shaver socket in the bathroom.

There is an extraction fan above the sink and was thinking to spur off that and install one of these (https://www.toolstation.com/proofvi...ger-white/p86233?store=N8&gStoreCode=N8&gQT=1)
, or a shaver socket.
Is that possible?
See photos attached

Cheers

sounds like a great idea.

Only trouble is, does the red light only come on with the ceiling light? In which case there may not be a permeant feed, and thus only charge the toothbrush when the light is on.

It may be possible, depending on how the power is provided to the FCU. You’ll need to see if the power is on permanently and not linked to the switched lighting supply.
Personally I would install a standard shaver point. The one in your link means that you’ll be stuck with the Oral-B brushes so you’ll not be able to change to a better make - eg SURI.

shaver points aren't really designed to charge toothbrushes, i.e. run for 16 hours etc.
They hum and get hot quickly. So would avoid where possible.

I think the click one I linked to works with 2 brands.

Thanks both. The light on the FCU is gone lol. I opened it and checked with my multimeter and there is voltage between L&N even with the light switch off. Hooray!

Out of curiosity where is the switched live then? How does the light trigger the fan? Cause I can only see supply L&N and load L&N there. Another wire coming from the light switch?

Back to our project, I was thinking to use a double box, on the left side have this FCU and on the right side another FCU for the shaver socket, and use a 3 way wagon to split the incoming L and N (or just link through the terminals of the FCU). Then chase the wall to the right and then down, use some T&E (not using the E) in small conduit and fit the shaver socket. Does this sound about right?

Cheers

Thanks I'll have a look. Tbh I'm happy with my oral b toothbrush not planning to change anytime soon. And I guess I could just replace the charging platform if needed!

You'll need to investigate that wiring. It looks very dodgy to me. there is an earth wire connected to the Neutral load connection.
That is BAD BAD. Probably mr DIY or bathroom fitter up to no good.

I suspect that the FCU has nothing to do with the fan.

Even if the charger does not require an earth, the E in the cable must be earthed at the supply end.

Thanks mate, I'll do some more investigation (when I'm not hungover from NYE party lol)
The FCU does turn the fan on/off so I'm guessing our plumber friend had no blue wire so just used E colour instead for the Load N?

Looking at your photo of the fan, you could do yourself a favour by removing the fan cover and vacuuming out all that crud.

Nonetheless, you should really have a fan isolator (3 pole) there instead, otherwise someone might think they've isolated it and get a belt from the switch live from the lights
