Do they really work without damaging the motor of the drill? And if so, why are they not more common?

I recently purchased a Metabo cordless drill, at the moment I have no desire to spend £250ish on an attachment that will, supposedly, increase the torque from 120Nm to 360Nm. I have no need for that kind of torque, Nevertheless, I trust the company enough to be honest about the gearing ratios.

the motor wont work any harder it just takes 3 times longer to get there its like a pully system gear box or even a car jack where the input is the same but the output magnified a lot

That makes sense- many thanks.
