Toupret filler to stick jointing tape

I've been using Toupret to adhere paper plasterboard tape to the seams and then apply a couple of coats on top of this before I smooth it out. Is this acceptable use of this product?

I did consider the use of jointing compound but it came in very large bags which seemed a waste.
