Jointing tape and compound

I want to dry line a ceiling and follow this up with emulsion. Not planning to skim.

Q. Is it ok to use toupret for the taping and subsequent coats or do I need to use jointing compound? I’ve used toupret before for various jobs and am comfortable with it.

what do you mean when you say you are going to "dry line"? do you mean direct decoration an/or dot an dab?

what boards do you have - square edge or tapered edge?

are you goin over an existin ceilin or bare joists?

I am pulling the current ceiling off as it’s damaged in places - whilst I was working in the rooms above it!

I intend to screw new plaster boards to the joists. I expect some edges to be tapered and others to be square.
