Trevi Therm 300 Temperature problem

I can't get anything more than a lukewarm temperature out of ours. Can the thermostatic cartrisge, once removed, be stripped and cleaned? Thanks

PS also removed all the control gear and just left the thermnostat in place - what temperature water will i get at the shower head?
