Tripping consumer unit

You have to work within the language you're trying to speak/write. ... Luckily for english speakers, there is nobody to tell you what you must do. But this means everyone is on their own. And sometimes has to ask for an opinion.
Indeed so - and I do feel lucky, for the reason you indicate. However, as I said, if one looks upon what we're talking about as creation of what is effectively a proper noun, by utilising a context-specific definition which is narrower or different from the everyday/dictionary definition, then the standard rules of English grammar would, indeed, require initial capitalisation.
[I reckon we'rfe doing quite well at getting off-topic here :-)]

Kind Regards, John

Ok, John. Nice that you understand what I was trying to say. Now, supposing I am trying to explain to someone why their USB data transfer is not working. I start to describe it using words from the USB specification. When I get to 'transfer' or 'transaction', I capitalize them because I am using them in the specific meaning of the spec, even though I may not have made a formal reference to the spec title.
Fair enough. If you are using words with a specific meaning (more specific than the general/everyday meaning) that has been defined in some other document, then that seems like a very reasonable practice - I might well do that myself - and perhaps also put the word in quotes. ... however, that is not what was going on in the post which BAS criticised.
They manage to get by without either of those techniques in Acts of Parliament and related documents.

See this, with which we are all familiar:

And, as above, it feels very reasonable to me, too. However, given that I am responding to someone called DetlefSchmitz, I guess I would be failing myself if I did not also ask you about German background/connections :-)
But it was Luckyphil who made the over-capitalised post, and who you originally asked about German background or connections.

a bit like the way that most of us distinguish between, say 'Conservative' and 'conservative' or 'Liberal' and 'liberal'.
"Catholic" and "catholic"....

That is true, although legislation varies in the way it deals with defined terms. However, I am sure that we are all also familiar with text in legal documents such as:
2.1 Consultant will perform Services as requested by Company. Consultant shall ensure that all work assigned by Company to Consultant is performed in accordance with the terms of this Agreement and the relevant Statement of Work. Services shall be performed in such a manner as to yield results in accordance with Company's instructions, failing which Consultant shall furnish Company with reports as to why such results cannot be achieved.

Indeed so - and a good few other similar ones.

Now the we have got that sorted out,any more thoughts on my original, and still existing problem?

Quite some time ago you were going to try splitting the ring to narrow down where the fault might be.
How have you got on with that approach?

If the opinion is that is my only option to eliminate certain parts of the circuit, from the procedure outlined earlier,I think I will have to get someone in who knows what they are doing.
I wondered if there were any more checks I could do myself, but my thread seemed to have got hijacked.
Many thanks to those who have assisted.

,but my thread seemed to have got hijacked.
.

<Sigh> it happens all too often.

Your plan to get someone in is probably your best bet. After checking the obvious you cannot diagnose a complicated problem from behind a PC screen.

Do let us know what the result is.
