Hiya. Our shower is maybe 5 years old and has just started to lose its temperature. We used to run it on a 6 or 7 and it was fine (hot without being excessive and plenty of pressure). Now when I start it on a 6, the temp is tepid. If I slowly wind it up to an 8 or 9 it eventually (2-3 mins) heats up to scalding and I back it off to 6 or 7 and its fine and I can run it for 15-20 mins with no temp fluctuation. Pressure is still ok . Head is a triton and not scaled up.All leccy connections are tight, clean and no rust. As are the TCU connections. Any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated.

sounds poss you could have a scaled element.

but check the elements for resistance using a multi meter.
each pair should have a reading of 10 - 18 ohms.

and check the stabiliser valve. turn to fully cold should be a fast flow, then turn to fully hot should be a very weak flow.

Cheers m8 very useful info. Resistance fine , flow as it should be , imput filter clean, no burnt cabling on either TCO. Scratching my head now. Will reassemble and test over the W/end and post back. Thanx again for your imput

on the plastic ones i never use nothing to strong being plastic.
vinigar works well soaked overnight.

Wife ( she who must be obeyed ) reckons it should only be White Vinegar ?

she knows.
if you use a kettle etc descaler make sure its ok for plastic.

Now i'm puzzled. Haven't yet descaled elements but just replaced the flow regulator (as i had one anyway), reassembled and tried it. Just the same result. V good flow. It normally is comfortably hot about 6 on the dial but it is now cold. Slowly wind it up to 10, flow is minimum but temp is hot. Leave it on 10 for 2-3 minutes and suddenly it bursts into life and is scalding hot. Back the dial off to about 7 and its perfect. I can then have a 15 min or more shower with no temp fluctuations at all. My question is this: would descaling help as it gets to temperature anyway - just takes an age to get there? Sounds like my love life!

what readings did you get on the ohms test on the elements ?

it sounds like how they can go when scaled they won't heat till the water flow is reduced to a min.

13 and 14 Ohms. Sounds like you may have cracked it ! Chickened out with the vinegar but sent 'er indoors out to get some Plastic Kettle Descaler. Will post back when done. Thanx again !

Jobs a goodun ! Totally sorted ! Great flow, great temp @ 6. My cup ( or shower !) runneth over ! I genuinely can't thank you enough and I would thoroughly recommend you. Whereabouts are you based ? :D

glad its all sorted and running ok.
bet the wifes happy

did you get much scale out of the can ?

Wife don't know yet - out at a dog show. Surprisingly little scale. Used Oust general purpose descaler (suitable for plastics as well). As the Can is quite small, I used 1/2 packet at a time and did it twice and decanted into a dish to check the residue.
