I don't disagree with the assertion that 'the special relationship' in whatever form it exists is bigger than presidents and PMs. They come, they go, it is the layers of administration below them that keep things running longer term.Whichever way you look at Trump, the USA are our biggest and most powerful ally that we need to keep on our side, we should have allowed the USA to use our bases on the first phone call and not take 36 hrs, we are reliant on the USA for our military operations as withoutt them we are nothing and that is a fact. NATO is also reliant on the USA, so Trump aside, he will not be here for ever and we need to rebuild that special relationship we held with them. We do not need to comit troops in an attacking role but we do need to do our bit in the defensive roole, that includes keeping the Straits of Hormuz clear for the sake of the worlds economy as it is in our own interest.
However to me one thing is undoubtedly true. Trump and Netanyahu started this, it's evidently not going the way they assumed it would, and now other countries are being increasingly dragged in.
Ok it can be asserted that's what working in collaboration sometimes means, however Trump doesn't exactly help matters with his rhetoric.
He thought the Strait situation would never arise, thought they'd be in and out before then, now that hasn't happened we're all being asked to send ships. I thought he didn't need our ships?
