If they donated it to the office of POTUS i.e. for the use of all presidents, for the reasonable lifespan of the jet, I could see less of an issue.
Not a non-issue, but less of a stinking cesspit than it currently is.
But as regards Orangina's comments about it actually saving money for the 'murcan taxpayer, I could only see that being the case if the Qataris merely paid Boeing the cash, and never got anywhere near the thing itself.
As complex as even a bob-standard 747 is, imagine tearing down an Air Force One and trying to find a malicious part or even a bit of code............the cost would be astronomical.
The story gets even weirder.
I have just been reading that Boeing are already halfway through converting two 747s into the the new planes for Air Force One. It takes several years and costs more than $2 billion per plane, but hopefully they will be ready by 2027. They say that to dismantle, rebuild and fit out the Qatari plane to the required level will take until at least 2030 and cost billions of dollars. By which time Trump will no longer be President. To then convert it back for his own use, they will have to spend many more millions removing all the secret equipment they have just installed. Even some of his closest allies are calling it nuts.
It is very confusing!
