I'd like to change a radiator, but the TRV head is missing off the valve. Is there a reliable way to ensure the valve is closed before unscrewing it? If not, can a new valve be fitted without a flood! (ie without draining down) Ta.

Temporarily borrow a TRV from one of your other radiators?
...or use a decorators cap?

Not all TRVs close the valve down completely. Best use decorator caps and then cap the valves once rad removed.

Thanks both. What is a decorator cap? The simple white on on the other end?

I've added a spare (new) TRV head, and it has engaged well. Will see how that goes...

Decorators cap - used on TRV’s after head removal for successful radiator removal, obviously if the valve shuts off. They screw down onto the TRV pin, thus closing the trv properly. Once both valves have been isolated, open the radiator bleed vent to ensure water stops, once this is confirmed, Close bleed vent, and continue to remove the radiator as normal.
