Is it common for them to fail closed ?

My hall one isn’t working.
Water comes out the bleed valve

Yes its common ,especially if the trv has been left closed for a lengthy period.

If you remove the sensor head ,does the pin in the centre of the valve body move up and down ?
What makes you think the trv is the cause of the radiator not heating ?

I don’t need a trv here.

Can I take the head off then and un jam this pin you talk off?

Until summer.

Take the head off and see if the pin is stuck down. Your problem may have nowt to do with the rads trv /not heating Andy.

Fair enough. But its not very likely for either of those to happen ,if all you do is remove the plastic sensor / actuator head. But hey ho ,its up to you.
