I have tried fitting a tumble dryer vent to our property after the weather is getting too cold to have our tumble dryer venting out of the window.

I have researched what i could and i have bought a kit from my local DIY store.

Unfortunately when i have gone to drill a hole, it looks like i have hit wood (wasn't detected by my stud detector when i checked).

Where did i go wrong? Was there an additional check i should have done?

Indeed from what i know its timber frame with brick outer. Im assuming i have hit a piece of wood that was backing the plug sockets between two studs, so i think i can avoid this by trying again slightly lower, however im not sure what that silver material is; is that just insulation?
