Hello All,

Just a quick bit of direction/advice needed...I have moved into a new house and the garden is a bit of a mess - apart from a bit of overgrwon stuff here and there the major problem is the grass...What appears to have happened is that the previous owners have just turned over the grass and so it all un-even and scraggy - sooooo, the question is do I

a) Use a rotivator type machine and churn all the turf up and remove the crappy old grass, flatten and then re-seed/re-turf...(any hints or potential pitfalls would be gratefully received :)

b) just flatten and hope for the best....

Cheers

Simon!

It depends what kind of lawn you want.

a} is obviously the best way if you want a good lawn. I have made several lawns, and it is hard work, there are no short cuts. If you rotovate it now, then keep raking and pulling out weeds, it should be ok to make the new lawn in the autumn.

But you could just rake it level, then apply selective weedkiller regularly, and just let the indigenous grass grow. This can make a reasonable lawn without too much effort.
