The situation is the following: I've got plasterboard (really thin one, 9.5mm) on a brick wall (not dot and dab but with battens), so the plasterboard is 22mm off the wall.
Now I want to attach a TV mount, probably this one (not purchased yet but that's the one in basket): https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MZ6ZYU1
The TV is a JVC 32", quite old, not too big, manual says 5.4kg weight though as the older ones are obviously a bit more bulky. 100x200 vesa mount so the one above should fit.
My idea was to cut a hole in the plasterboard and put a solid piece of wood in, I've got some 4x2 and 6x2 off cuts from construction. Put that in with masonry bolts (again, leftover, and I've used them before and I'm amazed how good they attach a piece of wood to the brick wall) - probably 2 would be enough. And then I can finish plastering/decorating and then later on put the tv mount in there with solid wood screws.
This is what I had found a few weeks ago researching DIY videos etc. Now some research on these forums here suggest that people usually take some long plugs and drill just holes in the plasterboard and in the brick below, put plugs in, and then long screws. But... that feels wrong to me? The plasterboard is just like paper, you can't fasten anything to it, so whatever you mount there is just 2 inches away from the wall fixing.
What's the best solution I should aim for? About to finish plasterboards and thinking this is a good moment to prepare this for the TV mount before I order it, and finish plastering/decorating.
