TV to act as a fire...

Hey!

This may sound weird but there is some logic. We wanted a wall hung fire but to be honest we arent at all fussed about it providing heat as we want it really just for the effect.

My plan was to get a small TV with built in DVD player and frame it with dark glass, just as a normal hire would be. I can then use a fire effect DVD and on other occasions use it to show photos.

Is there a product like this already around or something I will need to custom make? If something needs to be made any ideas on how to attach the glass to the TV?

All-in-one solutions with a variety of styles and all the control issues resolved. I'm sure you'll find other off the peg solutions if you search YouTube and have a bit of a Google.

One thing I would point out is that any sort of lifestyle/bespoke solution isn't going to be cheap. Regular lifestyle electric fires with flame effects are going to be £300+ for something stylish that sells in reasonable volume. Specialised or niche products are going to cost more, so that makes DIY very tempting. Just make sure you weigh up all the costs - especially the tempered and tinted glass - and factor in a cost for your time. You might find that DIY to produce a good looking result isn't that cost effective.
