Guys,

Just wondering if you could offer me some piece of mind.

Managed to throw my TVR Griffith into a ditch today, luckily no one was hurt.

The damage amounts to one of the stainless steel exhaust pipes being bend and slightly crushed, damage to the body work area above the said exhaust pipework and also damage to the front bumper.

What I'd like to know is whether or not repairs to a fibre glass car are easily done? Furthermore is it possible to take the car to an exhaust specialist for them to heat up the exhaust and get it back into shape or whether a whole new back section will be needed?

Many thanks,

Terry

Hi,

GRP is a very strong material. Depending on how the mat is laid in the mould, the thickness and the resin type it can be hard as rock or reasonably flexible.

GRP absorbs moisture over its life which can track between layers if not correctly made/repaired. It expands with freezing and splits the material leading to unseen weaknesses.

You have a performance car and the strength of the design was born out by the lack of passenger damage. I urge you to get it repaired professionally unless you have sufficient training - your life may depend on it.
