Two drains into one standpipe?

Hi, I was just installing a new dishwasher, there's already a washing machine in the same place with a drain feeding a standpipe. I assumed the standpipe was big enough for two drains, but the tubes don't fit. I could probably get them in, but it makes me think that this is intentional, maybe the drain can only handle one appliance?

Is there some standard for this? There is space for two apllicances, and a bunch of taps so it seems like it was designed for two. Would connecting the drains, or widening the standpipe be the sensible thing to do?

Cheers

That's what I'm looking for, would it be okay to run both appliances at the same time with this?
