Two Nailer Qs

First question: are the nails and gas generally compatible for different makes of first fix nailers? I hired one recently, and it had loads of 'blank' shots/misfires. I have loads of nails left, and a gas canister. Will makita nails work in a Paslode gun? Ta.

Second: Which kind of nailer for cedar/larch? First fix or second fix?

Makita seem to have problems with the reliability of their nail guns, battery in particular but a new design model is coming out this year apparently which should match hikoki etc for performance. Gas guns can under perform in colder weather. I would use paslode nails on a paslode gun or market compatible ones. Compressed air seems to be the most efficient so would suit outdoors but you don't say what the project is.
