If I have a combi to install with an onboard timeswitch, as most of them do, I don't really want to install an expensive programmable roomstat. What options do I have for fitting a simple, volt free roomstat? just about everything I look at is 230V

Cheers

Whilst that one would work on a two wire circuit it still has a 240 v anticipater. Use on low voltage would increase the switching temperature differential.

A battery operated programable thermostat has a dif of +- 0.5 degrees and can cost as little as £20. Little point in not using one I would suggest.

They're fine, 30 metre range, not line of sight. Not tried with stone walls though.
