Hi,

I am installing a shower holder to acrylic and was wondering what type of plugs I would need. I tried drilling a 6mm hole but the acrylic is splitting and when tapping the plug in, the acrylic is splitting around the edges. Thanks.

I'd think you want to make sure the hole in the acrylic is bigger than the plug end.

Are you using a HSS bit to start , hole looks to be damaged by wrong bit.Whats behind? Too little info .

Did the chuck of the drill hit the acrylic as you were drilling?

Which nylon plug are you using? And which/what drill bit did you use?

As per @foxhole 's post, you need to provide more info for others to help you.

Start with a much smaller (3mm) HSS jobber drill and work up from that.
A 6mm plug will need a 6mm hole, and don’t use a screw that is too big in diameter!

You'll need to fix into whatever is behind the acrylic panel - plasterboard/masonry wall or whatever. Used a packer the same depth as the panel or you'll crush it when you tighten the screw, and you'll need to seal the hole with silicone to stop water getting into or behind the panel.

What size plug are you expecting to Use?

For 5mm plug the clearance hole in the Acrylic needs to be 8mm; for 6 mm plug the clearance hole ought to be 10mm.

As recommended above start with drilling a 3mm hole in the Acrylic, work up to the final size in 2 steps. Drill slowly with minimal pressure. Use sharp drills. Once you have the clearance hole drilled then drill the wall for the plug.
