Can anyone tell me the different types of hydrogen pipe (mains pipe) are used in domestic situations is it half inch normal gauge, half inch heavy gauge, 3/4 inch normal gauge and 3/4 inch heavy gauge would i be right in saying that because im getting confused with the different types when trying to get instanter adaptors to bring them back to copper. can anyone help :(

I know Mains Gas is fairly new to Eire, but IT AIN'T HYDROGEN!! that would be Very Dangerous

ok not hydrogen pipe  . mains water pipe then sorry, if anyone would be kind enough to tell me the different sizes and what sort of instanter (compression joints) adaptors i would need to bring to half inch copper?

Could be lead, steel, plastic or copper, metric or imperial, what is the o.d.?

The gauge of the pipe won`t affect the outside diameter. And the threads should be Brit Standard Pipe. as far as I know  Do you have Philmac couplers/ fittings over there :?:

Irish pipe used to be smaller for some reason.

I once bought some radiator valves whose olives were too small for 15mm pipe.
I phoned Peglers who told me that they were Irish olives :?

" when oirish olives are smilin` " :? O Danny Boy the pipes are calling

The black plastic pipe im on about. philmac fittings wont bring it to copper tho, you said the gauge of the pipe wont affect the outside diameter so if it is heavy or light gauge can i get suitable fittings to bring to copper? o yea irish sizes are different. when connecting on to some mixer tapes ya know the copper tube you get with the tapes our half inch 310 wont fit them they are too small we have to get metric 310

You can get Philmac fitting to copper.

On the side of the pipe it will say Class C or class D, post that and we can move on.

It says class c. why whats the differents in the two?

Class C is thinner wall larger bore than the older class D.

If you go into your local plumbers merchants and ask for a whatever size class C Philmac coupler to whatever size copper pipe, and the inserts they will sell you a set.

Example 1/2" class C poly X 15mm copper. Philmac straight coupler.

Thanks for clearing that up for me and one more small question so you could have class C or class D in 15mm or 22mm mains pipe in your home, are 15mm and 22mm the right sizes for mains pipe in a domestic situation?

The class C will be imperial 1/2", 3/4", 1" etc

The copper in the house could be either depending on age, so 1/2 = 15mm, 3/4 = 22, 1 = 28 etc

Or you could have a reduced or larger size copper pipe, for example 1/2" class C x 22mm copper.

If you measure the OD in both cases we can tell you the size.
