Hi,
How can/should you connect a small 650w generator to a domestic supply.
Say you have a power cut can you simply connect it into say the ring main? Would this backfeed through the other circuits [I realise the limititations of such a small output!]. If you turned off the main switch then there would be no feed onto the grid.
We get occasional powercuts in the winter and I just want a quick system to run the central heating and a couple of 60w lights.
Comments and suggestions welcome!

it would back feed, and if you forget to switch it off when the mains comes back on and you turn the main switch on.............

although the idea sounds good practicality, says no.

yankey-sparkey pointed out it is quite often done in america, with large fines given to those who get caught when it backfeeds

why not get a couple of these i have

You need to fit a change-over switch..

So what you get is:

Meter loops from meter into change-over
Meter loops from socket inlet into change-over
Meter loops from change-over in fuse board

Then you switch between the supply you want....
(the contactors shown below are one)

The above picture is the socket inlet with a plug connector from the generator..
