The collapse of society, according to our rootin'-tootin' gun-totin' friend from across the pond.

FREEDOM are alive and well (other then in England) as the citizens in England do not have the rights as the folks just coming in.
Pure fantasy

Be fair, with Britain the only non-neutral Western Power remaining, in the absence of the US eventually joining in, things would have turned out very different. The Axis and the Soviet Union would have become too well entrenched for the US or anyone else to take them on without our large and unsinkable aircraft carrier off the West coast of Europe. So they had to act before we were defeated or reached an accomodation.

This possibilty was not an outcome the US wanted, hence the pro-Nazi Old Man Kennedy and the other US appeasers were eventually pushed aside.

It might have taken 20 or 50 years for the dictatorships to collapse from within, like Spain and the Soviet union did, who knows?

That may be true, but they still saw it as an opportunity to make a lot of money out of those in desperation.

Had they truly been brothers in arms, they would have given us the stuff, or at least binned the debt after the war and not expected payment and a hefty wodge of interest over the next 50-odd years.

It might also have helped if they'd have actually turned up on time to scrap, not several years late.
