Pollution in London has reduced after the controversial expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (Ulez), according to City Hall.

Levels of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) - a toxic gas that exacerbates asthma, impedes lung development, and raises the risk of lung cancer - across all of London is estimated to have decreased by 27%, the report found.

But was it all in vain...

During the study, average NO2 levels over an hourly mean near the Which? office on Marylebone Road reached 33 micrograms per cubic metre, while average PM2.5 over a 24-hour mean was 14 micrograms per cubic metre.

In contrast, three of the volunteers using a gas hob experienced PM2.5 peaks of more than 100 micrograms per cubic metre on several occasions, and one volunteer experienced a peak PM2.5 of nearly 650 micrograms per cubic metre. The WHO 24-hour mean guidance limit is 15 micrograms per cubic metre.

Khan will be taxing our fry ups next, I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

according to City Hall.

It wont be the first time Khan has commissioned "independent" research, to prove a hypothesis.

It cannot both be true that people have upgraded their vehicles or avoided driving in the zone and it also raising 100+miillion a year in fines/charges.

Why not? If people hadn't altered their behaviour it might have raised double the amount.

Funny how he wouldn’t release this 'good news' before the mayoral election.

Itd be good to compare to other large cities as a control.

Either way the improvement in air quality is a good thing.

A lot of really noxious substances emitted by hybrid vehicles simply aren’t monitored by roadside equipment .
