I'm sure this topic has been done to death, but...

Our shower was recently blocked - lifting up the drainhole discovered a whole mass of hair and slime and a nasty smell of what I presume is stagnant water.

I've removed all the hair but some slime remains and I can't get access to it. What's best? I'd prefer caustic soda to some fancy overpriced brand name, but have heard that using the wrong measurements can result in blocks of soda. What do you recommend?

Many thanks.

Before you try that mate/matess; get the shower hose, remove the head & give it a blast of high pressure water - works a treat!!

As said above remove shower head and run a lot of hot water to rinse the trap and pipework, if still blocked then to go Wickes and spend £30 and buy a wet vac and suck out the blockage. Thats what I use every day, it works a treat.

Or call someone out who will charge you £75-£120 to do the same thing with the same machine.
