Hi

I am about to install some underfloor heating. I have installed an RCD/FCU for the underfloor cable supply. Does the stat need a seperate supply or can I take it from the same RCD (via a jnc box) ?? I havn't actually bought the kit yet, but most of them say the stat is 16A rated. I know a spark needs to do the final connections etc, but I need to run the supply cables in now !!!!

thanks in advance.

I know a spark needs to do the final connections etc,.

They will need to do a lot more than that. If you haven't already arranged for someone to install this, please get someone BEFORE doing any work.
Otherwise you will be in the situation where no one will connect this for you, as they will not be able to sign off other people's work (i.e yours).

Thanks for the advise Flameport.

lets just say, purely hypethetically speaking, that I connected it myself, feeling all electrically competent and all, then where would I take the supply for the stat from ?

The fcu powers the programmer which in turn has connections for the heating cable and the temperature probe. Therefore just run a cable to your fcu, and on to the programmer position. No jnc box needed.

By the way, the heating kit comprises a heating cable and a probe. The probe is set into conduit in the floor. Both cables then run to your programmer position.

Take heed of Flameport's advice - you need to be able to test the heating system and notify the council that the work has been done properly. If you can't do this yourself, get an electrician in before you cover up any cables.

Thanks again.

As far as the info reads, this is purely a resistance check on the cable prior to and after the installation ??

I can manage that no problem. I am 16th ed trained, but I am in comms, not electrical installation !!!! Thanks for all your help. As for the council ;)

Do you know what length the probe is (normally) ? Also, do you know how much cold cable you get ??

I want to install the stat at head height, obviously !!
